SIPRI is engaging with the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the United Nations (9 July–18 July) in several ways.
SIPRI will co-host an event on ‘Agenda 2030 at a crossroads—How do we ensure an integrated approach in tackling climate-related security risks, conflict and inequality?’. The event will be hosted in cooperation with the Government Offices of Sweden; the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs; the Permanent Misson of Sweden to the UN; the Permanent Representative of Fiji to the UN and the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States. The event will be held on 16 July at 18:00–20:00 in Room CR-1, UN Headquarters, New York City.
Further, SIPRI presents key reflections resulting from the 2019 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development. These reflections will guide discussions on Sustainable Development Goal 16. Finally, SIPRI issues two publications to help inform discussions at the HLPF. Dr Florian Krampe produced a Policy Brief on ‘Climate change, peacebuilding and sustaining peace’. Mark Bromley, Dr Marina Caparini and Alfredo Malaret prepared a Background Paper on ‘Measuring illicit arms and financial flows: Improving the assessment of Sustainable Development Goal 16’.
