On 3–4 February, SIPRI and the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA) held a closed-door expert workshop in Beijing, China, on the theme ‘Space and Strategic Stability’.

The workshop brought together experts with legal, technical, policy and military backgrounds from Canada, China, Germany, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The discussions covered developments in the space domain, related threat perceptions, and strategic signalling and deterrence in space, and identified potential risk-reduction measures to maintain stability in outer space.

The workshop was part of a research project sponsored by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
