On 5–8 May, SIPRI hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a diplomatic training course on disarmament and non-proliferation.

Held at SIPRI in Stockholm, the four-day course featured lectures and exercises led by SIPRI researchers and invited international experts covering a range of disarmament and non-proliferation issues, with a particular focus on the nuclear landscape. As part of the course, Karim Haggag, incoming Director of SIPRI and current Professor of Practice at the American University of Cairo, delivered a lecture on arms control approaches in the Middle East.

The course was designed for diplomats who are already a part of or may enter multilateral forums on these critical issues. It seeks to develop expertise and foster a strong community of diplomatic practitioners striving to shape and promote a secure, peaceful and sustainable future.
