On 14–15 June, SIPRI hosted a two-day interactive workshop on ‘Delivering an Environment of Peace: Moving from Policy to Action’. The workshop brought together international researchers, policymakers and practitioners, who work on issues related to climate, environment, peace and security. Participants shared some of the challenges they face in implementing responses to climate security risks and discussed practical ways forward.

Dan Smith, SIPRI Director, and Claire McAllister, Programme Lead, opened the workshop by reflecting on SIPRI’s Environment of Peace initiative, which launched its flagship report last year. Both speakers encouraged participants to use ideas from the workshop in their organizations.

The workshop explored topics such as enablers and disablers to action, climate finance in fragile and conflict-affected states and what effective implementation looks like in practice. Participants found the workshop highly valuable in terms of content and facilitation style. Participants also remarked upon the importance of creating meaningful relationships in this field in order to more effectively achieve their goals.
