The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities (Östasiatiska museet), Tyghusplan, Skeppsholmen Stockholm
The international security landscape is witnessing the most intense period of instability since the end of the cold war more than three decades ago. The breakdown of global arms control is leading to a renewed nuclear arms race and increasing the prospects of proliferation. Fraying international alliances and rising great power competition are giving way to record levels of military spending. The marked decline in international development assistance, the growing climate crisis and repeated violations of international humanitarian law threaten to exacerbate human insecurity. Against this backdrop, escalating regional conflicts are undermining conflict resolution efforts.
Join us for a wide-ranging conversation with SIPRI's international Governing Board as they address the implications of these dynamics, their impact on global and regional conflicts, and the urgent imperative to maintain pathways for peaceful conflict resolution.
Opening remarks by Stefan Löfven, Chair of the SIPRI Governing Board and former Prime Minister of Sweden.
The event will begin at 14:30. Refreshments will be served from 16:15.
