On 26 May, SIPRI, in collaboration with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, hosted a roundtable on ‘US Foreign Policy and Multilateralism under the Trump Administration’.

As the global geopolitical landscape continues to shift, the trajectory of the foreign policy of the United States remains a defining factor in international relations. Understanding the US approach to multilateralism is essential for navigating today’s complex security challenges.

The meeting featured a presentation by Dr Bruce Jones, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and Professor at the Freeman Spogli Institute, Stanford University. The presentation was followed by an open discussion, moderated by SIPRI Director Karim Haggag, on US actions across the world under President Donald J. Trump.

The roundtable brought together a variety of experts and professionals from both Swedish and international organizations and institutes. The exchange covered, among other things, the key pillars of multilateralism and their current state, the USA’s attitude towards the United Nations, ideas of economic and cultural dominance, and the role of strategic relationships.
