On Thursday, SIPRI will co-host a virtual event examining the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in humanitarian and development efforts across West Africa. The event will be held in both English and French. See below for details and registration information.
The event will be conducted as part of SIPRI’s ongoing work in the Research & Action for Peace (REcAP) Network. It will be hosted with SIPRI’s consortium partners: the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP).
The event aims to foster dialogue on the role of AI in early warning systems, conflict prevention and climate security, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
Speakers include:
- Philip S. Odonkor (WANEP), presenting on early warning systems, conflict prevention and AI.
- Pathé Dieye (DRC), introducing the report ‘The Contributions of Artificial Intelligence in Early Warning Systems for Conflict Prevention’.
- Kyungmee Kim (SIPRI), presenting the report ‘Artificial Intelligence for Climate Security: Possibilities and Challenges’.
The presentations will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.
