On 24–29 August, SIPRI and its partners hosted the Armament and Disarmament Summer School, an annual initiative that provides an important learning and networking space for early-career professionals working in disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control. This year’s programme welcomed 23 participants from 19 countries.

Over the course of the week, attendees took part in diverse sessions designed to deepen their expertise on key disarmament topics. SIPRI experts delivered lectures on issues such as arms transfers, artificial intelligence, export controls, military expenditure, space security and weapons of mass destruction. The programme also included hands-on workshops focused on policy writing and effectively communicating research to the media.

About the Armament and Disarmament Summer School

The Armament and Disarmament Summer School is hosted by SIPRI and the Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament at Uppsala University, in cooperation with the Odesa Center for Nonproliferation. The summer school is an annual fixture within disarmament education. Structured as both a course and a networking opportunity, the summer school is aimed at young and emerging professionals in the fields of disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control. The programme intends to develop participants’ knowledge and skills, empowering emerging specialists to further expand their expertise in these critical issues.
