The Organization for Security and Co-operation in  Europe (OSCE) Security Days are designed to bring new thinking to the table and gather together experts from a range of different countries and specializations.

SIPRI Senior Researcher Dr Jaïr van der Lijn participated in the fourth Security Days event for the year, in Vienna on 16 September. He took part in a panel on the contributions of regional and multilateral organizations to international peace operations, giving a presentation on the future of peace operations and which roles the OSCE can play.

He argued that while there are many possibilities for future contributions by the OSCE to peace operations, in an increasingly multipolar world where cooperation decreases the role of the OSCE is likely to shrink and the window of opportunity for the OSCE to support the resolution of intrastate conflicts may actually be closing.
