2016—A Year of Reflection

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, SIPRI has designated 2016 as its Year of Reflection.

Throughout the year, SIPRI will release a series of short films that focus on the institute—its people and its work—and the building of a more peaceful future.

Rising to the challenge of peace

The first film in the series features SIPRI Director Dan Smith discussing long-term security challenges, including the rise of global inequalities, competition for natural resources, climate change and patterns of world power.

Tracking international arms flows and why it matters for peace

This film features SIPRI Senior Researchers Dr Aude Fleurant, Pieter Wezeman and Mark Bromley discussing the international arms trade and ongoing efforts to control it.

Looking at peace from a gender perspective and why it matters

This film features SIPRI Research Assistant Emma Bjertén-Günther, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström and SIPRI Chairman Sven-Olof Petersson discussing the role of gender in peace processes.

How tracking military expenditure creates transparency and contributes to peace

This film features SIPRI Senior Researcher Dr Sam Perlo-Freeman, SIPRI Director Dan Smith and former Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Hans Blix discussing SIPRI's freely available military expenditure data and how it can be used by organizations around the world to facilitate peace.
