On 11 June, SIPRI hosted a workshop in Stockholm on nuclear disarmament education.

In their capacity as co-leaders of the Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament (AMC) working group on nuclear disarmament in policy and international law, Dr Sibylle Bauer and Dr Wilfred Wan convened a group of leading researchers, experts and educators active in the field of nuclear issues.

Held in the lead up to the AMC annual conference in Uppsala, workshop participants explored the state of education, considered its future and highlighted the need to rethink existing education models for a fuller understanding of nuclear disarmament, across a series of thematic sessions.

Drawing on diverse insights, participants discussed how education on nuclear issues varies across countries, shaped by national narratives and regional perspectives. They also exchanged ideas on how to engage non-traditional approaches, de-silo conversations and sustain engagement by making teaching more grounded, inclusive and connected to current developments.
