On 8–11 November 2021, SIPRI hosted the sixth annual Stockholm Security Conference (SSC 21) in a virtual format. Videos from all the public sessions are now available on SIPRI’s YouTube channel.
The conference featured 15 sessions on the theme of ‘Battlefields of the Future: Trends of Conflict and Warfare in the 21st Century’. So far, the opening panel has engaged over 1600 viewers, while the thematic sessions reached a global audience of more than 870 unique attendees.
SSC 21 explored means to prevent and mitigate the risks of rapid advancements in technology. The online sessions looked at how current developments in technology have opened cyberspace, outer space and the mental space as potential new battlefields of the future. Additionally, the conference explored trends in several parts of the world where more traditional types of warfare are continuing or re-emerging. The Ypres Peace Prize ceremony concluded the conference, connecting battlefields of the future to those of the past.
