In January 2013 SIPRI, together with its partners at the School of
International Studies
(SIS)
at Peking University, held a symposium on Chinese and European approaches to,
and experience of, protecting nationals abroad.

The
most recent edition (2013, v. 2) of the SIS journal International Politics
Quarterly
(国际政治研究)
features
a special section that focuses on the symposium and includes several papers
(in Chinese) written by participants.

Authors
include Wang Yizhou (on the principle of non-intervention), Tang Yongsheng (on
China’s participation in anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden), Yang Yang
(on the risks involved in the protection of overseas Chinese nationals), Xia
Liping (on China’s protection of consular staff), SIPRI’s Oliver Bräuner (on
protecting Chinese nationals in Kyrgyzstan), SIPRI’s Mathieu Duchâtel (on
security cooperation between China and Europe), Sjur Larsen (on consular
protection in crisis: the case of Norway) and Jean-Pierre Cabestan (on
