SIPRI was honoured to be invited to launch SIPRI Yearbook 2026 at the Swedish Parliament on 9 June 2026 to celebrate SIPRI’s 60th anniversary. As part of the launch, the Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs held an open meeting.

The meeting, which took place in the former First Chamber, began with opening remarks from the Chair of the Committee, Aron Emilsson (SD). The Speaker of the Parliament, Andreas Norlén, and the Chair of the SIPRI Governing Board, Stefan Löfven, each delivered an address. SIPRI experts Dr Sibylle Bauer, Dr Vincent Boulanin and Nivedita Raju joined SIPRI Director Karim Haggag to discuss nuclear arms control, military uses of artificial intelligence and the centrality of the space domain to contemporary warfare.

There was an opportunity to ask questions after the presentations. Pre‑submitted questions from members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs were given priority. Morgan Johansson (S), Vice Chair of the Committee, provided concluding remarks.
