Mauricio Escobar Montalvan is an intern at SIPRI, working with the Director’s Office, where he supports senior leadership through internal coordination, strategic planning processes, and high-level institutional engagements. He has a background in political science and is currently completing a master’s degree in Environment, Politics and Global Development in Sweden. His academic training focuses on international politics, development, global governance, and the political and socio-economic dimensions of environmental change and sustainability.
Prior to joining SIPRI, he worked at the Embassy of Bolivia in Sweden, supporting consular, administrative, and diplomatic activities. His responsibilities included public-facing consular assistance, document management, institutional communication, and support for official meetings and events. This experience provided him with practical insights into international public administration and diplomatic coordination, and strengthened his understanding of how state institutions operate in international contexts.
