Zainab Albaaj Ahmed

Zainab Albaaj is an intern in SIPRI’s Director’s Office, where she supports senior leadership in internal coordination, strategic planning and high-level engagements. She holds a degree in Political Science, specializing in International Relations, from the University of Gothenburg, following exchange studies at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Her undergraduate thesis examined the gendered dynamics of women’s participation in the Syrian revolution, contributing to her broader interest in peacebuilding, gender and migration.  

Previously, Albaaj volunteered at the Raoul Wallenberg Academy and the United Nations Association of Gothenburg, where she contributed to projects focused on international development and youth engagement. Her work included supporting efforts to encourage young people’s engagement with global development issues, as well as planning and delivering workshops and events and supporting media outreach and communications.
