SIPRI hosts former minister of foreign affairs of the State of Kuwait

On 8 May, SIPRI hosted His Excellency Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, for an expert roundtable discussion.

Ambassador Jan Eliasson, Chair of the SIPRI Governing Board and Dan Smith, SIPRI Director, presided over the discussion focusing on developments, challenges and opportunities in the Gulf region.

During the roundtable discussion, HE Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah identified three main challenges for the region: regard for international rule of law; the need for economic stability; and the respecting of international norms.

After the event, the former minister was interviewed for the SIPRI Spotlight film series where he spoke about security challenges in the world today.
