Non-mandatory UN arms embargo on Eritrea and Ethiopia

In February 1999 Security Council resolution 1227 strongly urged 'all States to end immediately all sales of arms and munitions to Ethiopia and Eritrea' due to the border conflict between the two states.

In May 2000 the Security Council replaced this non-binding statement with a mandatory arms embargo.
