Technical support

To note: the Africa Security and Governance Project ends as of April 1, 2012.  With that the Technical Support phase also comes to an end, including fellowships and internships.

Technical support to enhance research in the field of security involves providing support in the form of training and assistance by SIPRI’s library, editorial, communications and technology support team to the staff of partner organizations. Such training and support is especially important given the ASG’s emphasis as a ‘support in kind’ initiative designed to support the quality of advocacy work of African CSOs.

Using SIPRI’s strong research tradition and competence in the field of security studies, ASG intends to share expertise, resources and tools with partner organizations. The overall purpose of the technical support is to assist CSO efforts to improve and sharpen their advocacy work on security-related issues in Africa.

The technical support component also includes two visiting fellowships and two internships at SIPRI. The positions are reserved for young Africans, working or resident in Africa, who are involved in security-related research, practice or advocacy. The fellowships are for three months each and are intended for people in mid-career positions. The internships are for six months each and are intended for people that are either at the beginning of their career or those looking to start a career in the field of security in academia, as practitioner or in civil society. The advertisement for the fellowships and internships will be posted on the SIPRI website and circulated through several African email networks.
