Working at SIPRI

Working conditions and benefits

Annual leave

Staff are entitled to paid annual leave from the first year of employment. Full annual leave entitlement applies to staff employed for the entire calendar year.

Annual leave entitlement is determined by age, as follows:

  • up to and including the year in which the staff member turns 29: 28 days

  • from the year in which the staff member turns 30: 31 days

  • from the year in which the staff member turns 40: 35 days

Insurance coverage

All staff are covered by a range of insurance schemes. These include occupational injury insurance (covering occupational disease, accidents at work and travel accidents), occupational group life insurance (providing financial protection for dependants in the event of death), and business travel insurance for domestic and international work-related travel.

Parental leave

SIPRI provides a supplementary parental benefit in addition to the parental benefit paid through the national insurance system.

Pension

All staff are covered by an occupational pension scheme administered by the Swedish National Government Employee Pensions Board (Statens tjänstepensionsverk, SPV). Part of the occupational pension is selectable, allowing staff to choose how this portion is managed. The occupational pension supplements the national pension to which all individuals working in Sweden are entitled.

Relocation support

For staff recruited from outside Sweden, SIPRI provides support with work and residence permits. For researchers recruited from outside Sweden, SIPRI also covers relocation expenses.

Remote work

Staff may enter into an agreement to work remotely for up to two days per week. Remote work arrangements are subject to the needs of the organization and the nature of the role.

Wellness allowance

SIPRI provides a wellness allowance (friskvårdsbidrag) of up to SEK 1,500 per year to all staff.
