Göran Lennmarker joined SIPRI as a Distinguished Associate Fellow in October 2014. Göran Lennmarker was previously Chairman of the SIPRI Governing Board between September 2010 and August 2014. He is an experienced politician and foreign affairs practitioner with particular interests in transatlantic relations and in conflict prevention and conflict management in the South Caucasus. He was a member of the Swedish Parliament for the centre-right Moderate Party from 1991 to 2010. From 2006 to 2010 he served as Chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee. He has also chaired the parliamentary European Union Affairs Committee and been a member of the EU Convention on the Future of Europe.

Mr Lennmarker served as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from 1996 to 2010. He was elected President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for two consecutive one-year terms in 2006 and 2007. One of his chief aims at the OSCE was to secure a more active role for the Parliamentary Assembly in conflict prevention and conflict management. He has also been an observer at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and a member of the Swedish delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.
