Ms Rachel Irwin is a researcher in the Global Health and Security Programme at SIPRI. Recent and current research projects include the politics of avian influenza in Indonesia, barriers to polio eradication and diplomacy at the World Health Organization and other global fora. Prior to joining SIPRI she worked on European health systems and pharmaceutical policy at the London School of Economics. She obtained her MPhil in Medical Anthropology from Oxford and her MSc in International Health Policy from the LSE. She also holds a BA in Anthropology and German Studies from Case Western Reserve University. She is currently a PhD candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where her research focuses on global health diplomacy, trade and health. Prior to joining SIPRI in 2011, Ms Irwin has lived in the UK, Switzerland and Kenya.
