Research issues

This is a capacity-building project with a strong research component, focusing on three main issues:

• the security-related activities of external actors in Africa—in particular those of China, France, Russia, the UK, and the United States—and of international organizations, such as the European Union and the United Nations, and also those of the African Union and some of the African regional economic communities, as external to individual African countries;
• the impact of African countries’ security policies in terms of government expenditure, governance and legislation;
• the relationship between external actors and the development of African policies in the field of security and governance.
