To support discussions on the feasibility of an arms trade treaty (ATT) , the European Union (EU) is funding a series of six regional seminars, hosted by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), to increase the awareness of the ATT proposal among UN member states, regional organizations, civil society and industry are to promote international discussions about the proposed treaty. In April 2009, SIPRI was commissioned to provide a series of background papers for the seminars. These papers are intended to inform regional discussions on an Arms Trade Treaty.
