In 2006-2007, the SIPRI Arms Transfers Programme and Special Program on the Implementation of Targeted Sanctions (SPITS) at the Uppsala University analysed the effectiveness of the 27 United Nations arms embargoes that were imposed between 1990 and 2007. The research team produced a report and series of case studies and also provided a series of recommendations for improving the implementation of UN arms embargoes. The report is the first analysis of the 27 United Nations arms embargoes that have been imposed since 1990.
