Developing improved mechanisms for identifying agents engaged in illicit shipments of SALW to Africa

Timeline: 2008-2009
This project was aimed at mapping existing international efforts for identifying and controlling brokers, shipping agents and air cargo carriers engaged in illicit small arms and light weapons (SALW) shipments to Africa. The project proposed EU-level mechanisms for improving the coordination of these efforts and making the information generated available to relevant stakeholders. The project also looked at the possibilities of including SALW transfers to Africa in the SIPRI Arms Transfers Database.
