Funder: OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC)

Timeline: Sep. 2011 - May. 2012

SIPRI is currently undertaking a research project on behalf of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC). The research project is focused on states' Annual Submissions under the OSCE Information Exchange on SALW concerning transfers of SALW to and from other OSCE member states.

The research project is aimed at improving awareness of the contents of states' submissions and better understanding the discrepancies that exist, thus facilitating the implementation of commitments agreed in the OSCE Document on SALW. The project will provide a statistical overview of methodologies used in participating States to collect information on SALW transfers to and from other participating States. The project is not aimed at standardizing states' data collection and reporting methods. In addition, the study will not analyze the trends in actual transfers, nor will it look to make recommendations in this regard.
