17th Annual International Conference on Economics and Security

Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is pleased to announce that the 17th Annual International Conference on Economics and Security will be held at SIPRI in Stockholm, Sweden, on 14–15 June 2013. The conference is co-organized by SIPRI and Economists for Peace and Security.

  • Thursday 13 June: pre-conference lecture by SIPRI Director, Professor Dr. Tilman Brück, 18:30, Stockholm University Geovetenskapens Hus. Followed by reception. Free, open to the public.
  • Friday 14–Saturday 15 June: 17th Annual International Conference on Economics and Security, SIPRI, 09:00–18:00


Keynote speaker:

Friday, 09:45: Professor Dr Ron Smith, Professor of Economics, Birkbeck College, London: 'The economic cost of military conflicts'.

  • Saturday 15 June, 19:30: Conference dinner at a restaurant in central Stockholm (optional)
  • Sunday 16 June, 09:30: Day-trip to ancient Viking settlement of Birka (optional)

Travel Subsidies

Thanks to the grant we have received from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, we are able to offer conference-fee waivers and travel subsidies to some participants, prioritizing presenters from non-high Income countries and countries in receipt of EU 'bail-out' packages. More details.
