2 December: SIPRI Yearbook Issue Seminar: Nuclear Weapons in Europe
2010 has been an important year for nuclear arms control and disarmament. The nuclear non-proliferation review conference concluded with the suggestion to create a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East. Strong voices suggest to even make Europe a nuclear-free zone. With NATO’s new strategic concept just released, the future of nuclear weapons in Europe is once again up for debate. Who needs nuclear weapons? Do they remain an effective deterrent?
