20 May, SIPRI, Stockholm, 10:00 - 11:30

Seminar on Ukraine, NATO and Russia in an East Asian perspective

In only a few months, the situation in Ukraine moved from political crisis to major armed conflict. The result is not only a tragedy unfolding in the heart of Europe, the implications are wider. In spite of the extensive set of laws, institutions, and operational instruments that have been created in Europe, conflict prevention failed. The efficiency of conflict resolution measures is being very severely tested. The model of cooperative security is being reevaluated across Europe, and traditional approaches based on defence and deterrence are being actively applied. The panellists will discuss how the situation in Ukraine is perceived from outside Europe. Read more about the seminar (PDF).
