Developments in 2012

On 26 April 2012 the UN restrictions on arms supplies to Côte d'Ivoire were extended for one year. However all restrictions on the provision of training, advice and expertise related to security and military activities and on supplies of civilian vehicles to the Ivorian security forces were lifted.

On 18 May 2012 the UN Security Council imposed travel sanctions against five military officers who had seized power in Guinea-Bissau the month before and threatened additional measures, including an arms embargo.

On 26 April 2012 the UN Security Council extended the arms embargo on non-state actors in Cote d'Ivoire for one year and lifted all restrictions on the provision of training, advice and expertise related to security and military activities and on supplies of civilian vehicles to the Ivorian security forces.

On 26 April 2012 the EU arms embargo on Burma was extended until 30 April 2013.

On 15 October 2012 the EU arms embargo on Belarus was extended to 31 October 2013.

On 26 October 2012 the EU arms embargo on Guinea was extended until 27 October 2013.

On 28 November 2012 UN Security Council extended the arms embargo on non-governmental forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo until 1 February 2014.

On 29 November 2012 the EU arms embargo on Syria was extended until 1 March 2013, imposing a renewal term of only three month instead of one year.
