SIPRI data on military expenditure

The SIPRI database on military expenditure contains data for about 167 countries. Data for the most recent 10-year period are presented in the SIPRI Yearbook. In the SIPRI Military Expenditure Database data are presented on a calendar year basis in three basic formats:

  1. Military expenditure in local currency, at current prices;
  2. Military expenditure in US dollars, at constant (2005) prices and exchange rates;
  3. Military expenditure as a share (%) of gross domestic product (GDP).

This table shows the expenditure on equipment by NATO countries, based on NATO data converted into constant (2005) US$ million

The 15 major spender countries in 2006  (pdf-document)
This table lists the 15 major spender countries, converted to constant (2005) US$ by market and PPP exchange rates.

Military expenditure as a share of GDP, 1998-2003
This table shows the share which the military expenditure constitute of the GDP for countries with a high military burden.

This link gives access to data from the SIPRI military expenditure database. Data are presented by country in the three basic formats (see above).
