SIPRI Early Warning Indicators Database (ver. 1.00)

The database has been compiled by Mikael Weissmann during his extensive literature review of currently existing systems of and research on Early Warning. As presented here it is the first version of an on-line database of this kind, thus feedback and comments are appreciated.

It does at present consist of 1260 potential conflict Early Warning indicators and is one result in the development of the SIPRI Early Warning Indicators System for Preventive Policy. It has been used as the basic starting point for the selection of indicators for our model consisting of framework data (country statistics) and event data (monthly questionnaire).

The database has been compiled from a wide range of different sources, ranging from indicators used for the prediction of a refugee crisis to indicators of war. The aim has been to develop an as extensive database of Early Warning indicators as possible. However this is a work in progress and the database is by far not complete. It has been developed mainly for internal use and hence emphasis has been put on including as much information as possible, therefore some indicators have fairly extensive comments.
