On 7-8 December 2005 a Conference Strengthening European Action on Non Proliferation and Disarmament: How can Community Instruments contribute? took place in Brussels.

During the first part of the Conference UNIDIR and SIPRI, who have been carrying out research under a European Union Pilot Project, presented reports that were prepared as part of the project.

These reports were discussed by Conference participants, which included experts from EU member states, experts from non EU countries, experts from the Commission and from the Council Secretariat, experts from specialized institutions (including the OPCW and the IAEA) as well as non-governmental experts.

The second part of the event took the form of an Inter-Parliamentary Conference organized under the auspices of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament.
