Dr Clevestig is currently carrying out a project to examine the role and responsibility of the Swedish biomedical research community in preventing acts of mass impact terrorism. A virologist, Dr Clevestig holds a bachelor of sciences degree in biomedical laboratory science and bachelor of medical science degree with a major in biomedical laboratory science. He received his doctorate in February 2006 in Infection Biology through his work on HIV-1 in vertical transmission. He has carried out medical research at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at the Karolinska Institute. In 2006 he was the administrator of the Karolinska Institute Biosafety Committee. He is also a member of the Nordic Biosafety Network and has authored or co-authored scientific publications primarily in the field of virology. He recently co-authored Implications of the Convergence of Biology and Chemistry in Arms Control for a meeting organized by the Polish Academy of Sciences on dual use in November 2007.
