Return to G8 introduction
1997: Denver, USA
At their 1997 Summit the leaders of the G8 discussed both nuclear arms control and nonproliferation and issues related to nuclear material safety and security.
The Summit communique in particular addressed the issues of nuclear arms control and nonproliferation.
The Foreign Ministers Progress Report followed up on the implementation of the programme agreed at the Moscow Nuclear Safety and Security Summit. This programme included, among other things, measures to combat illicit trafficking in nuclear materials as well as efforts to establish an effective system of nuclear material accountancy.
