1993: Tokyo, Japan

At the G7 Summit in Tokyo between July 1993 the leaders paid particular attention to strengthening the functions of the United Nations (including in respect of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction) as well as regional security issues.

In the Political Declaration agreed by the leaders, Striving For A More Secure and Humane World, the role of regional cooperation in strengthening security was underlined, including the need to reverse the decision of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to withdraw from the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT).
