The Non-proliferation and Export Control Project conducts research into issues of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and arms control, disarmament, proliferation and non-proliferation.

Current research interests include:

  • The changing role of nuclear weapons in international security and the political and technological dimensions of nuclear arms control and non-proliferation issues.
  • The role and responsibility of the Swedish biomedical research community in preventing acts of mass impact terrorism.
  • Disease surveillance and response with a focus on Asia.
  • Legal, technical and historical aspects of the implementation of international prohibitions against chemical and biological warfare, including the verification of non-production of chemical weapons within the chemical industry and national defence research establishments, and the security implications of dual-use research and technologies in the life sciences.
  • The national export control systems of states, with a primary focus on Europe, as well as international cooperation to expand the scope and strengthen the effectiveness of export controls.
