SIPRI's organisation

SIPRI's organization is comprised of a:

  • Governing Board;
  • Director;
  • Deputy Director;
  • Research Staff Collegium; and
  • support staff.

An Advisory Committee serves as a consultative body to the Institute. The Governing Board takes decisions on important matters concerning the research agenda, activities, organization and financial administration of the Institute. Matters not to be decided by the Governing Board are decided by the Director. The Research Staff Collegium advises the Director on research matters.

The staff of the Institute is international. The researchers are recruited for a specific period from different geographical regions and represent various academic disciplines.

Located in Sweden, SIPRI offers a unique platform for researchers from different countries to work in close cooperation on projects designed and approved by SIPRI. The Institute hosts guest researchers, who spend some time working on issues related to the SIPRI research programme.

Although SIPRI is not a teaching institute, it does receive young interns who wish to learn more about the Institute's research activities. Contacts are maintained with other research centres and individual researchers throughout the world.

SIPRI cooperates with several international and regional organizations, among them: UN Department for Disarmament Affairs (DDA) and the UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU). The Institute also cooperate with several research institutions, located in Sweden, in Europe and in other regions. Frequent contacts are maintained with diplomatic missions in Stockholm and the Institute also regularly receives parliamentary, scientific and governmental delegations.
