Brief introduction

The Information Technology Section deals with all the aspects of information technology which are applicable for the Institute. The main areas are: computerization of the institute, local and global networking, and databases.

We support our research program with the technical tools of information exchange and information processing.

We also provide the tools and assistance for our in-house book production. SIPRI produces camera-ready-copy for its publications, which are then published by Oxford University Press.

We have a local Ethernet which connects our roughly 80 computers (predominantly Macintosh systems).

We are part of the Sun Microsystem Sun Site programme. We serve as a Sun Site for Political Science in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Additional sponsorship has also been received from ORACLE which provides us with Oracle database software.

SIPRI's research is based solely on open sources, and no secret information is maintained on our computer system.
