Dr Olawale Ismail has a good record of research and publication on security issues, especially on Africa and developing countries. His research interest includes regional security mechanisms, peace building and post-conflict reconstruction, peace operations, security sector and justice reform, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, military expenditure and youth, and political violence. Dr Ismail current work focuses on examining the impact of external actors on security and governance processes in Africa. He previously coordinated two West Africa focused-research projects at King’s College London, namely on youth vulnerability and exclusion, and militancy and violence.

Dr Ismail was born in and spent his early life in Nigeria, and has lived more than nine years in the United Kingdom (Europe). He has carried out professional travel to more than 25 countries.
