Dr Björn Hagelin began his academic studies in political science/international politics at Stockholm University. Dr Hagelin, during the 1970s, became aware of and interested in Sweden's economic difficulties for realizing its independent defence acquisition policy and more and more deliberate changes towards international cooperation and permissive arms exports. This became a long research interest that was complemented by research and publications on, among other things, trans-Atlantic defence trade, US military acquisitions of foreign research and development, export policies of and implementations by the European neutrals and Nordic cooperation and offset policies.
