FAQ
QUESTION:
Can I donate money to SIPRI?
ANSWER:
Under the applicable Swedish law, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is empowered to receive donations and bequests from private or corporate persons in financial form.
SIPRI is happy to accept such gifts on an ad hoc or recurring basis, provided that the following conditions are acceptable to the benefactor:
- the gift/bequest may be used to further the current aims and activities of the Institute as defined in SIPRI’s Statute. In this context it should be noted that SIPRI’s policy is to use and to produce only open information, ie the results of any work funded by donations and bequests may eventually be published;
- donors may specify that their funds be used for a scholarship or fellowship allowing the attachment of one or more individuals to SIPRI for research and study. The region or country, and/or the sector of origin (eg private sector, media, scientific studies) of the beneficiary(ies) may also be specified if wished but SIPRI must remain free to devise and conduct the selection procedure;
- in all cases, SIPRI will be free to decline the offered donation or bequest without giving reasons;
- all cases where offers are declined will remain confidential between SIPRI and the donors;
- in other cases, donors may choose to request “no publicity”; or to have their names recorded [in an addendum to this notice/page].
